What is Moxa or Moxibustion?

Recently, I have been getting really great feedback with the use of Moxa along with acupuncture treatments. Patients usually ask “So what are you using?” “What is this called? Moxa? Moxi?” “How does this work?”.
Moxibustion is a treatment used within traditional Chinese medicine that involves a herb, mugwort, burning. It is known as moxa. The
Moxa stick is used over the skin to warm and stimulate specific points on the body. Based off what you are coming in for- I will determine if I think Moxa is a great additive to your acupuncture treatment.
Most patients that receive Moxa along with their acupuncture needles are people that present symptoms related to:
digestive disorders
menstrual cycles
fertility
chronic pain (especially due to arthritis)
insomnia, anxiety, or stress
The theory behind using moxibustion is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain overall health.
Patients who receive moxibustion along with their acupuncture treatments report feeling a pleasant heat sensation that creates a deeper feeling of relaxation during their treatment. Moxa should be a soothing and enjoyable experience!
