Acupuncturist, business owner, wife, and mom
Hi! My name is Nicole but some of you might know me by Nikki. I’ve been an acupuncturist for over 6 years practicing in Island Park, NY. I grew up in Staten Island and moved to Long Island with my now husband after I finished acupuncture school. I was given the opportunity to start my acupuncture career at Vatra Spine and Sport which just so happens to be connected to my husband’s business, Island Park Fitness. I have been so thankful throughout the years that I have been able to grow my practice in Island Park which also has allowed me to grow and start a family. August 31, 2022, we welcomed our son Morgan! Becoming a mom has been the greatest blessing I could of ever asked for.
“Why did you decide to become an acupuncturist?”
I decided I wanted to become an acupuncturist after I graduated undergrad. I received my Bachelor’s in Community Health at SUNY Cortland. I always had an interest in wanting to help people but I wasn’t sure how I would. My mom suggested that I pursue becoming an acupuncturist since I had such a great personal experience with acupuncture treatments. When I was 16 years old I started to go for acupuncture to help ease my aches and pains from the demand of being a competitive gymnast. I LOVED it. I relaxed. I took a nap. And best of all, I felt refreshed and ready to go. So fast forward a few years, here I am!
“Nicole? Nikki? Lauren? Nicole Lauren Wellness?”
I STILL get text messages from patients who I have been treating for years and they will say “hey Lauren..”. Or maybe you think my last name is Lauren. Well, my name is Nicole Lauren Moloney. My maiden name is Candrilli. When I first started my business I wanted to keep it simple and only use my name. I wanted to be the business! I purposely did not want to use my last name because I knew in the future “if I ever got married” I would want to take my husband’s name (personal choice and your girl here loves traditional things) hence I just went with Nicole Lauren Wellness.
“What is the most common “ailment” you treat?”
STRESS. This is why I fell in love with acupuncture and why I love being an acupuncturist. Stress is the most common “thing” I treat. Whether someone is coming in for pain, sleeping problems, infertility, headaches, GI issues, etc - we almost always find that there is a stress component to their symptoms. Acupuncture allows a patient to have time to themselves. There is NOTHING else someone can do when they are on the acupuncture table. No phone, no emails, no kids, no work, no errands. The time to be able to lay still is so valuable in helping patients heal.
“So why the blog?”
Throughout my years of treating I have built such strong relationships with my patients. A lot of times they find peace in having someone they can relate and get advice from. I wanted to start to share with more people who might be seeking advice or love to hear someone’s personal experience with something. I am constantly sharing book, podcast, recipes, baby related, and more recommendations so I want to have it somewhere that more people can benefit from!
More to come!
xx,
Nicole
